Featured Speaker

Scott grew up in rural western NC, Marion to be exact, with a keen interest in all things related to science and nature. If he wasn’t playing baseball, football, or wrestling he was fishing or hunting with his grandpa, uncles, cousins, and dad. During the 70s and 80s it was rare to have a place with deer and wild turkeys were almost nonexistent in western North Carolina, so most of their pursuits were rabbits, squirrels, and the occasional grouse which usually escaped. Scott’s grandpa once told his close group of hunting buddies that “Scott’s the best jump dog I’ve ever had and I’m gonna miss him when he goes to college”. Scott’s greatest life decision was to follow the Lord, and his lifelong goal is to serve God’s purpose for his life. As many of us understand he is still pursuing that goal for a life that will not only honor God, but also fully utilize his gifts for God’s kingdom. Scott earned his undergraduate degree in Environmental Science with a pre-med emphasis at East Carolina University. After deciding that being an orthopedic surgeon was not for him, he went on to obtain a master’s degree in wildlife and environmental toxicology where he did extensive research on bobwhite quail and ringneck pheasants in southern Iowa. Scott then went on to work as a wildlife biologist in Florida and Missouri managing for upland small game, deer, and turkey. In 1999 he went to work for the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) where he managed national restoration projects, habitat restoration, and helped restore healthy wild turkey populations all over the US, Canada, and Mexico. Scott served as Executive Vice President there until 2016 where he oversaw conservation activities and hunting heritage programs improving over 1 million acres of habitat and introducing more than 100,000 youth to the outdoors annually. He was also the host of Get in the Game, Save the Habitat, Save the Hunt, and cohost for Turkey Call TV for close to 14 years. Scott left NWTF in 2016 to become the Executive Director and CEO for the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance (USA) headquartered near Nashville, TN. As CEO, Scott developed innovative fundraising programs, major donor initiatives, corporate sponsorships, and online retail efforts growing the USA tenfold in just 7 years. USA’s youth outreach program grew from less than 100 participants to consistently introducing over 5,000 youth to conservation, nature, and the outdoors each year and their conservation infrastructure program grew to more than 200 projects annually across the United States. Scott also hosted the USA’s Brotherhood Outdoors program which can still be seen on YouTube. Scott currently works for Delta Waterfowl Foundation as a Director for Development across the southeast with an emphasis in Tennessee and the Carolina’s. Scott’s deep background in wildlife management and conservation fundraising makes this job a great fit and allows him to get back to NC roots. If you want to know anything about ducks and duck management, he is your guy. Scott is a servant leader who loves to network, team build, mentor, and develop innovative programs and successful strategies. He’s a skilled public speaker and has provided many seminars on how to build trust, innovate effectively, overcome immunity to change, and demonstrate effective leadership. Scott’s long-term goal is to build a wilderness ministry where people can learn to love Jesus through their outdoor experiences. God is calling him, and he is listening! Scott is a committed father, husband, and community leader. His life goals are leave a legacy of love for Jesus, strengthen our respect and admiration for his creation, and build a community of action through conservation and God. Scott’s testimony is one of joy, triumph, success, tremendous loss, betrayal, and unwavering faith. Listen as he shares his life experiences and how important God is and will continue to be in his life.
